Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. is a family business steeped in tradition. Its rich heritage reflects the value and vision of two respected families, equally well known for their commitment to excellence.

Co-founders Edward J. Wujek & Lawrence M. Calcaterra graduated together from the New England Institute of Anatomy, Sanitary Science, Embalming and Funeral Directing in Boston, in 1963. They were classmates, roommates, fraternity brothers and they both came from families dedicated to providing outstanding funeral service.

The Wujek family tradition began in 1917 when Edward's grandfather, Anthony Wujek, established a funeral home on Canfield Avenue in Detroit, across from Sweetest Heart of Mary Church. The Calcaterras' experience dates back to 1913 when Lawrence's uncle, Frank J. Calcaterra, opened his first funeral home on Rivard Street, across from Detroit's old San Francesco Church. He was later joined by Lawrence's father, Louis C. Calcaterra, Sr.

The two families combined generations of experience when Edward Wujek and Larry Calcaterra co-founded the Wujek - Calcaterra Funeral Home in 1984. The tradition continues as the next generation of the Wujek's and Calcaterra's takes its place in the family business: Edward and Carolyn Wujek's four sons, Robert, J. Edward, Michael, and Edward II; and Lawrence and Judy Calcaterra's three sons, Larry, Matthew, and Michael.

It is this strong family bond that qualifies Wujek-Calcaterra Funeral Home to care for the funeral needs of any family with both competence and compassion.
